Brighton Scoop Up Wonderkid Zadok Yohanna in Major Transfer Coup

Valentine June 7, 2026 3 min read

The Seagulls have beaten out top European heavyweights to secure the signature of Nigeria’s brightest young attacking talent.

Brighton & Hove Albion have pulled off another masterclass in the transfer market, officially securing the signature of 18-year-old Nigerian sensation Zadok Yohanna on a five-year deal spanning until June 2031.
The Premier League side announced the deal after hijacking a highly competitive race. Despite Swedish club AIK Stockholm reportedly accepting a €25 million (£21.6m) bid from Chelsea, alongside fierce interest from Manchester City and Newcastle United, it is the Amex Stadium that Yohanna will call home.
The club's official announcement image, captures the young forward gazing forward over his shoulder, proudly modeling Brighton's iconic blue-and-white colors with his name printed boldly on the back.

A Meteoric Rise: From Kaduna to the Premier League

Yohanna’s journey to the pinnacle of club football has been nothing short of a fairytale. Just over a year ago, the dynamic winger was playing grassroots football at the Ikon Allah Football Academy in Kaduna, Nigeria. After moving to AIK Stockholm in 2025, his explosive development saw him transition from the youth setup to the senior squad in a staggering two months.
Operating primarily as a left-footed inverted right winger, Yohanna completely lit up the Swedish Allsvenskan. His lethal blend of raw pace, elite dribbling, and data-backed efficiency—averaging a high volume of shots and winning over 53% of his offensive duels—made him an impossible target for Europe's elite scouting networks to ignore.

How Fabian Hürzeler Plans to Unlock Him
Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler did not hide his excitement regarding the tactical depth Yohanna brings to the South Coast. Speaking on the transfer, Hürzeler noted:

"Having seen his games and his attributes, he is a player that can impact games in the final third. He's dynamic, has pace and likes to take players on. His attributes and ability will be a real addition to our attacking options."

While Hürzeler preached patience, acknowledging that the teenager will need time to adapt to the physical demands of the Premier League, Yohanna's high ceiling aligns perfectly with Brighton's world-renowned talent pipeline.
"To Make My Family Proud"
For Yohanna, the move represents the realization of a lifelong dream. Reflecting on the rapid escalation of his career, the winger shared an emotional sentiment upon signing:

“I am very happy to join this club because I know where I came from. I really wanted to make my family proud. And I have done that.”

With international interest brewing from Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, a breakout season in England could quickly propel Yohanna into the senior Nigerian national team conversation. By choosing Brighton over the chaotic loan-army structures of Europe's mega-clubs, Yohanna has placed his faith in a system designed to turn prodigies into world-class superstars. Expect the Amex faithful to be on their feet the moment he makes his debut.
