Neymar Bids Emotional Farewell to International Football After Brazil’s Heartbreaking World Cup Round of 16 Exit

Following a shock 2-1 defeat to Norway, Brazilian icon Neymar has officially announced his retirement from international football, ending a legendary 16-year career.

Neymar has officially drawn the curtain on his illustrious international career following Brazil’s premature elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The 34-year-old star confirmed his decision immediately after Brazil’s 2-1 loss to Norway in the Round of 16 at MetLife Stadium.
The match proved to be a symbolic bookend to his journey, as Neymar had made his senior international debut at the same venue in 2010. Despite scoring a stoppage-time penalty in what would be his final act for the Seleção, he could not prevent Norway’s victory, fueled by an Erling Haaland double.
Neymar finishes his international career as Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 80 goals in 130 appearances. Though the FIFA World Cup title ultimately remained elusive, his legacy includes a 2013 Confederations Cup title and 2016 Olympic gold.
